Well i think spring is finally among us here in the Northland. Ramps are opening up and boats are getting out on Superior. Rice’s Point (under the High Bridge) is now open and boats are going out. McQuade is open and ready to go. Also, boats have been going out of 2 Harbors. THe only landing that is still iced in is Loonsfoot, and others farther up the St. Louis.
The rivers are still kicking out loopers daily, and the shore fishermen are doing okay too. People who have been in boats off the Lester and French have been doing good trolling stick baits.
Smelting will be tough this year along park point, as it looks like Antarctica as there are huge icebergs pushed up along shore and they go out 50 or 60 yards and are two stories tall.
The cohos are in full swing and can be caught from a boat or on shore. They will eat about anything you throw at them from a crawler to a crank bait. My first impression is they are a little smaller this year than last, but still decent 15 to 18 inchers.
