With the recent departure of good-fish able ice from the majority of the north shore, and the lingering skim ice, fishing opportunities are limited right now from Duluth, up the shore to Two Harbors. As of the other day the Two Harbors harbor was still wide open. There is pack ice from Park Point, heading east down past the Amnicon river. As of today there hasn’t been anyone fishing it, but a blue Otter Cabin may been seen out there soon .
There have been some very good reports coming off the river mouths for loopers, but again, it is fish able one hour, and not the next as the wind constantly blows around ice. You can bet it will be packed with people this weekend with the warm temps coming. A hair jig under a bobber is the way to go when you have floating ice you have to deal with.
I am still hopeful for ice off of Duluth and the North Shore, as it still could happen yet. As we get into late Feb, the chance of getting good solid ice diminishes, but fish able ice is still a good possibility even if it is 3 or 4 inches thick, that is if these west winds ever lay down!
