Well, so far it has been phenomenal here on Lake Superior in regard to trout fishing. We are now in water to cover all species of trout, and they all seem to be biting when we go out and fish for em. With aggressive stocking and some great growth rates the past few years, due to an explosion of smelt back into the system, it seems our fish are fat and sassy. All give a great fight and through selective harvest, some are mighty fine tasting as well!!

Come on up and give your hand a try at the Grand Slam!! Browns – Splake – Lakers – Brookies – Steelhead

    Mark,

Yup – shoreline stuff.. From Ashland to Bayfield now.. Sneaked out to a few islands already, Basswood and Madeline, but the ice is still variable. Should be firmed up good after this next cold snap..

Like I said, we’ve been HAMMERING em..

Thanks for the report. Looks like a sturdier than average ice rod you’re holding in the pictures. What kind of setup are you using to jig for the trout?

    John,

I mainly fish outside, not in a house, so I like a longer rod.. The rod I am currently using is a 38″ Mackinaw Spinning.. Great rod for the trouts.. Am currently looking to have it made in a medium action though, as for the smaller variety, this rod is a little over bearing..

Inside a house, I like a 30 to 32 inch medium action rod..

I am teaming all my rods with 8lb Fireline Crystal.

I was under the impression laker season ended sept 30th and the rest of the trout season on nov 15th, but we can keep em through the ice then? Can someone please explain the difference?

*edit* – looks like I need to reread the regs, lakers open dec 1 – sept 30, all other trout all year

where are people walking out in bayfield in relation to the madeline island boat launch downtown?
