is the action any good through the ice on lake superior? Im looking into possibly trying out a spot or two along the south shores for the first time.

Most of the time you have to get up to the Apostle Islands on Wi side to get ice.
I’m sure Grant Sorensen will chime in, he’s a great resorce and a really nice guy. -Mark

Of course! there isnt fishable ice out there usually until mid january. The Apostale islands may see ice sooner but around duluth, ice isnt common until mid january or february. Lake trout, Choh salmon, Camloop trout, herring are all popular species to catch thru the ice. What are you interested in? WHat area are you looking to fish?

Around Duluth, it is very rare that we can ever get a snowmobile out on the lake but Down by the apositle Islands is a different story. In 2007 we have 10 inches of ice in here that stayed for 3 weeks and i saw some wheelers out there, but that happens every 10 years or so.

I will keep you updates as far as ice conditions go. Just be ready, because one day its here then the next its gone lol. Salmon and trout fishing can be very good so it is pretty exciting when we get some good ice!

thanks grant, yeah Ive heard some stories about the ice shelves breaking from some charter guides I know in Bayfield, some so big and long that if you were on em you wouldnt know youre floating away until it was too late, coast guard behind called, etc. So I shouldnt expect any ice in the port wing, herbster, and cornicopia area then?

Im in no rush anyways, have finals the next two weeks then a month and a half of free time before class is back in session. 3+ weeks works perfectly.
