Hit the raod at 3am picking up my Brother and friend Chris on my way to TH. Had a slower drive than I wanted due to fog but had lines wet by 7. It is a bit erie trolling the fog but luckily had no close encounters with other boats. Trolled NE just past Encampment Island and back. 7-4pm It was a great day.

Ran 4 boards experimenting through out the day with numerous cranks, sticks and even a spoons behind 3 colors. Only producing lure for us was the Flouressent orange with black squiggle Bomber Thunderstick (a top producer this year) which took 5 pinks from 13-17″. We had a few swings and misses as well.

On the riggers I pulled spoons for a while with no success changing spoons a few times. Idealy I wanted a king or 2 so I decided to put fly/flashers on the riggers working the upper 50′. Ended up getting 3 lakers on them and My brother had on something really nice but it made a good run and threw the hook.

Went 8/12 with 3 lakers and 5 pinks. Worked 60-400′ through out the day found fish scatered. 2.6-3mph Temps 47-54, no probe. There was a good mud line just SW from the pie shop other than that no other mud. It was my Bros first time on SUP, lost a couple but did manage to coax a laker to the boat.

BTW- avoid 35 and 61 during all high traffic times, left TH at 5 and got to Elk River at 9.

Nothing like a 4 hour drive from the north metro to Duluth to start a guy off right on a fishing trip. I’ve had three trips like that over the last 12 months. I just wish there were more options for getting north in that part of the state.

Thanks for the report. There’s an outside chance that I might make it up to Duluth to do some walleye fishing along the south shore later in the week. If I make it I’ll definitely report back.

The Fog was completely ingulfing. I went out at 6:00 and only saw two boats until 2:00 and one was my buddy who was targeting the same area. I had my stocking cap, rain coat and sweat shirt on until noon. I love natural air conditioning.
I ended up 3/5 a very nice 8lb King, a 29″ Steelie and a 7lb laker, lots of tick and runs on the long line. I don’t count them because I never really had them on and I assume they were Pinks. All fish came off of a #7 purpledescent tail dancer. I’ve done so well with these up there I have 5 in my box. Run them 150′ behind the boat/board and hold on.
Saturday night I ran solo again from 7-8:30 and got 1 Coho around 5lbs, 3 lakers and I downsized and got 6 pinks and 2 more bows. A very intense 90 minutes by myself. Ending up 12/18. Most coming off a 2″ pink and white luhr-jenson spoon I got out of a bargain bin for 50 cents.
Sunday was tough. We only got 2 lakers from 6-12:00 both around 5lbs. Found a very nice temperature break and fished it hard but only got one from there and the other just out in the abyss. Went out to 650′ and found 59 degree water but no fish. Hope to head up labor day weekend or maybe a day trip during the week.
Fishing is only going to get better. Anyone who likes to fly fish should be ready to head up there. The lake is full of pinks and when they decide to make their run it’s going to be intense. I’d say 2-4 weeks.

Yup. But we called the trip off. Dirty water. We’re going to keep trying though.

I fished the south WI shore this weekend. The water was muddy from the rain, and the fishing was pretty slow. Between a couple of boats we got around 8 walleyes the smallest was 17″ the largest was 27″ There were several coho’s and a half dozen or so lakers caught.

Thanks for the update. That walleye bite is one that I really want to experience. I’ve heard when it’s good it’s really-really good!
