I just got back from a 4 day trip. The rivers are in good shape right now….plenty of water without being dangerously high. The river anglers are getting fish as are those fishing the mouths of the rivers. Just be aware that fishing changes day to day so you might find one day dead and the next too hot to handle.
If you can round up a 9 foot flyrod in about an eight or nine weight, throw a spinning reel on it and have at’em. Drifting a spawn bag or a waxie on a plain hook/sinker can be productive. Sometimes a float can help. Take a variety of splitshot sizes. The spawn can be fished on a plain salmonegg hook, size 6 is fine. Waxies can be fished on the same hook or a Looper Bug….available at shops all along the shore.
Mysel I headed right for the breakwater in Two Harbors to spend my tree hours of fishing time and stuck one laker by casting a 1/2 ounce gold/orange stripe Krokodile. I didn’t think to change line before heading to the shore and that 5-6 pound fish broke me by running around a corner and dragging the line on the cement.
If you’re thinking od doing the breakwater, any medium action 7 foot spinning rod with good 8 pound line will work. The Kroks, little cleos and # 4 or larger Mepps spinners are good. The gold/orange is my go to color scheme, but blue on silver can be wild now too.
