What are the chances the waves will let a person get out on superior in a 19′ pro-v to chase salmon, trout, or eyes? 1 or 2 days out of a week maybe? Never? I have no idea. Please share if u got any idea

I get my “Near Shore Marine” forcast from this site http://www.noaa.com. It is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. I find it to be reliable when I take my 18′ lund on Lake Michagan.

I have a 17 foot Lowe and fish out of Grand Marais Harbor. You don’t have to go far to get on Salmon or Lakers depending on time of year. The bottom line is if you don’t feel comfortable out there go in.Sometimes it is hard to stand up when fighting a fish but it is fun to let the downriggers out once in a while.

I use my ProV 1900 on Michgan and Superior all the time. The big water there is typically easier than big water on Mille Lacs. Well…unless it gets really snoty. the waves are higher but further apart.

Holy cow! In a 19′ you speak of should get you out there a whole lot more than my 16′ mirrocraft does. I manage to get out 5-6 times a year, but thats mostly a work issue, not a boat/wave issue.

When I lived in Duluth my 1660 Pro V tiller saw it’s share of water time. If I had a 19 Pro V, I would go as far to say the days that aren’t suitable for your rig, I wouldn’t want to be out there anyway.

I have even seen a pontoon with downriggers attached trolling out there. I wish I would have captured that on camera.

so jason, your saying that I shouldn’t have too much problems with my 1650 angler ss? I don’t know too much about the differences between mine and a pro v

    You will be fine.

The pro v is going to be a little deeper and may be a little wider.

It’s not the size of the boat, it’s your use of common sense. Canoeing and kayaking is common on Lake Superior, but they understand the limitations.

Stay vigilant and understand your limitations.

    Good luck!

I see people on Superior in kyaks and canoes quite often and have fished the lake in my 14 foot jon boat. Jason has offered the best advice….If you go out and find yourself unesay, go in. Common sense is your best friend on that lake.
