So the much anticipated trip to fish kings on Lake Michigan is finally here and I spend the night in the ER in Two Rivers. Appendicitis. Scheduled to have the offending tissue removed tomorrow. Grant promises to send me fish pics…to cheer me up. What a swell guy.

I blame the fact that I have my todays and tomorrows mixed up on the pain meds. I’m going under the knife at 7am today. Can’t come soon enough.

Remembering back to when mine had to be taken out, the pain was not much fun. Plenty of time left in life to fish, need to worry about your body right now.

Sounds like the type of luck I usually have. Take care of yourself and you will be ready to go at the beginning of the fall bite. Best fishing of the year in my opinion.

I think it was Patti Page that sang….”it only hurts for a little while”.

Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery and a clean procedure James.

That sucks, but since they held off on surgery till the next day sounds like you went in in time to catch it before it burst. Speaking from experience, waiting till it bursts to stop ‘toughing it out’ and go in makes it a whole lot messier. Good luck on the recovery.
If your having trouble keeping food down after, ask for the nausea pills even though you may not feel nauseous, that’s what finally got me able to eat (and keep down) food again.

Well…..how’s the patient? Nobody sneezed with a scalpel in hand and turned him into a capon? Curious if they managed a “same-day” job or if they had to peel him.

Hopefully they got it easy and she didn’t blow. Getting your intestines ‘power washed’ isn’t fun, or at least the aftermath sure wasn’t.

Or, he got out so fast he’s on the water now?!?

Not so good, Tom. The surgeon that performed the operation figures my appendix burst on Tuesday. Ironically this was the same day I told two of my employees that I hadn’t felt this good in a couple weeks.

So long story short my appendix had been brewing for a couple weeks. When it burst it actually made me feel better, at first any way. The two day delay in getting to the operating table cost me 14 cm of bowel, the offending appendix and part of my colon.

I’ll be in the hospital for the next week at the minimum receiving strong antibiotics to make sure the infection is under control.

Not fun. Not fun at all.

WOW. My prayers for a complete recovery are with you James.

I know others who have had burst appendixes and they didn’t fare near so well. You take care.
