I’ll try and post daily reports when I can.

Yesterday I went out of Twin Points near Two Harbors. Managed 6 fish, 3 lakers, 1 king and 2 coho. All my fishing was within 2 miles of shore and all fish came from 30-50 below the surface. 2 fish actually came while jigging. That was a first for me and quite fun.

Water temps varied greatly throughout the day ranging from 38-60+ degrees. Warmer farther out but I didn’t mark any fish so I didn’t try it out real far.

Planning on hitting Twin Points again today with my cousin. Hopefully will be able to get some pics with a partner in the boat today.

I just checked the weather up in that area and you’re in for a great 3 day trip. Thanks for keeping us updated… it makes spending time in the office a little more tolerable.

Focusing on the warmer water will yeild more trout, and in shore with that 38 to 45 degree water will produce more salmon.

Congrats, sounds like you had a descent day. How big were your king, and cohos?

What do you use while jigging? Do you only catch trout while jigging or salmon too?

Salmon are tough to catch jigging because they are so suspended and move around so much.

I love 2 and 3 ounce white bucktails with a stinger hook.

Sorry for the lack of reports. Grand Portage doesn’t have cell coverage.

It’s been a slow week for me. Wednesday wasn’t bad. I fished with my cousin Ron who made his first trip to Superior. With the weather we had up here I couldn’t wait hear him say “this is a weird lake”. Hot inshore, and cool on the water made for some interesting conditions. Hot wind followed cold wind followed by calm and lake fog. I’d have to say it was weird myself.

We managed 6 salmon, mostly kings, and 1 small laker. We stayed near shore because of the constantly changing conditions. We missed mor fish than we landed. Probably salmon.

Thursday I made way up to Grand Portage with no intention of heading out to Isle Royale. The weather was calm and stable so I made the maiden voyage. I knew that I didn’t have enough to do some serious exploring so I stuck near the south end. I didn’t fare well catching 0 and missing only one. A good one too. I did manage a few smaller trout and salmon near Grand Portage at the end of the day.

Today, I fished near Two Harbors after replacing a wheel bearing on my trailer . With Grant’s advise, I headed for the warmest water I could find. When I found 58, the warmest around, I marked a fish 45 ft down right away. Had a real nice laker right up to the boat but didn’t have a net man, so I’ll blame it on him. Probably 15 lbs or so . I left about 30 min later to pick the FW up at the marina to head back out. By the time I got back out, that warm pocket had all but disappeared. We did manage a few small lakers after the wind pushed the warm water into shore.

If I’m lucky, I’ll get a chance to head out again before I leave on Monday. I have a softball tourney at he Buffalo house up here and if we do well we may get the late games so I have the chance to get out in the morn.

And by the way, anyone heading up for the first time must stop at the Marine General. Every time I head up I try and plan it so I can stop in. They’ll give you any help you need and that store has EVERYTHING! I didn’t realize it until I started wandering around.

I fished out of two harbors yesterday and only got two lakers and a steelhead. Pretty slow for me or so i thought until I went out today and got skunked. Didn’t hear of anyone catching much of anything today other than one guy in a tiny boat saying he got 3 coho’s and a king fishing in the harbor. Not sure I believed him though. Going to try again tomorrow. The wind today made it tough.
