We are taking a short family vacation to the Lutsen area September 6th thru 9th. I wanted to see if anyone can point me in a direction where I can do a little fishing from shore, would someone have an open seat for myself and a brother in law to do a little fishing one of these days, is there a charter someone would recommend for a new to the area group. This is our first time to this area so I know nothing besides I want to pack some tackle if I can and it makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Pink Salmon should be running by then. You can find them in the rivers up to the first barrier falls. Most of the better rivers on the North Shore are inside of state parks, get yourself a park sticker and you’re all set.

Remember that treble hooks are illegal in the river and within 100 yards of the river mouth.

If you’re using a spinning rod, small Mepps or Blue Fox spinners will work. My wife caught a dandy male Pink Salmon (complete with hooked jaw and big hump) at the mouth of the Poplar River a couple of years ago.

If you fly fish, small orange or pink egg flies are the ticket.

    Good luck!

Tofte Charters might be a place to try looking into.
