I was wondering what is currently producing right now on the North Shore. I’m headed up on tues morning for the rest of the week and was hoping to get right to catching. From my limited experience up there it sounds like larger size spoons are best in August. I never tried the 5″ spoons in July.

Are they hitting the larger spoons right now? I’ve found that by far my most productive color has been watermelon in any size. Any particular colors working right now?

Of course I will have a good spread on depth 20-80′ under the surface. Pulling LC and dipsys. FYI, I did end up buying some 9′ dipsy rods last week. I bought the cheaper shimano trolling rods, I forgot the model. They seem to be what I was looking for.

Thanks in advance. I hope to post some daily reports next week. Will anyone else be up there?

I talked to Grant yesterday, James and him are fishing today. So I would imagine they will have a report prior to you leaving on your trip.

Grant and I day tripped it up the north shore yesterday. It was a lot of driving for one day but the laker bite was out of this world which made it all worth it. Grant landed a 44″ behemoth of a laker that cannot be described in words. As I’m not about to steal the young man’s thunder I’ll let him post the pics. A 40+ lb laker is a rare fish indeed. He’ll have a full report on the bite. We also caught dozens of 15 – 25 lb trout as well.

Stop into Marine General in Duluth and pick up some Jims flashback spoons in the N2 and N3 sizes. Bright oranges and yellows have been working best. Their back wall has 100’s of colors so have fun picking some out!

If your after coho and kings, the n2’s and the next size smaller has been best. But for lakers the n3 is the way to go.

Thanks for the tips Grant. I’m actually leaving in the morning so I can hit up MG for some spoons. I do every trip up.

I’ve got a lot of pinks, purples and oranges already but was wondering if greens were doing anything because I don’t have many. I’ll make sure I have some spare oranges and yellows when I head up.

With orange and yellow you must be using the 57 Chevy?
