Now that the season has closed…..

Ma and I made another run to the cabin, what with the nice weather, and just as sure as shootin the trout were on fire now that the season is closed. They were all pretty high upin the water column too….right there with the steelhead. I fished the breakwater in Two Harbors and had an absolute riot with these fish. The herring provided some fish for the table but these trout and steelies were incredible catches. I had one steelhead that taped 31 inches and five others between 24 and 27. Most of the lake trout I caught were in the 6-8 pound range but one chunk came along at about 13 pounds. From herring to lakers to the steelheads, they all fell to spinners. Either the trusty old glod/orange combination or a green/silver combination took every fish this trip and I never counted the casts down any further than 15.

Man its a blast to hook up these fall-run steelhead and watch them run and jump. Just unreal fight and fun.

The cabin yard had deer all day and all night. Lots of bucks. We had three grey fox, 2 pups and Ma, in the yard two nights and a really pretty red fox on another night.

Fun animal watching capped off with some great fishing in great weather. It can’t get much better.

You were fishing trout and the season was closed??

    Must be missing something here.

    Season opens next May right?

Hopefully we’ll meet up then, looking forward to it.

Al…who thinks it’s gonna be a long winter.

Late fall fishing will see the Lake Trout everywhere in the water column and they’ll smack a lure tossed for salmon or loopers. Like any other fish taken that is during a closed season they have to go right back.

Lake Trout will open again in mid-January Al. You don’t have a long wait at all.

Thanks, now I got it, you were fishing for something else..:)

Somehow being in a boat in mid Jan on Superior just doesn’t seem like fun.
