Ok, finally getting out a week from now, the 8-9th, and we’ll be going out of Silver Bay and headed north, I have 4 new rigger rods and 2 dipsy rods, one spinning rod and a couple spare rod and reel set ups, just in case.

Planning on running spoons a lot, but am thinking I’ll start with three spoons, one off planer boards and snap weights and two off the down riggers, add one dipsy diver with a flasher and fly and see what happens (there’s two of us btw).
That may all change the morning we get there, but it’s a start..
Planning on weaving from maybe 90-100 to ? and running lures from 30-40 foot to 60-90 foot deep.
    Sound good so far?

Al, ill get caught up to your e mail here soon.

But for now, DOnt worry about the depth of the water. Up around silver bay, 500 yards offshore will put you in over 300 fow. That does not matter at all.

And yes your plan set up sounds great! Make sure you have some white out there!!

They are predicting west winds at 10 mph give or take a mph or two depending on who you check, but that shouldn’t be a problem for us in our 185 tourney sport I hope??

Not real familiar with winds up there yet.

Hoping to run up from Silver bay a ways and troll back.

Not a problem. I was out there in my Fish Hawk 1750 with 15 mph NE wind 2 weeks ago and never had a wave come over the bow. I was a little nervous, but that boat rolled over every wave beautifully. The wind will actually help the bite.

    Also…

I have been using this site to get my wave height info. they update it about every 6-12 hrs. It seems to change frequently, but at least it gives you an Idea of what to expect.

And I stole this info from another poster on another site. (I apoligize if you frequent this site as well.)

    East 13

    North 12 to 15

South 20 (less if a long way out)

    West 25

Al, forecast looks kinda hairy for tomorrow. 20-30 out of the west means you will NOT want to be on the water. If she blows more NW you may be okay, but a W will kill ya at 20 to 30.

Thanks, committed to going so we’ll just have to see what it looks like when we get there.

With my boat what wind/waves do you think we could handle??

Or if it’s to windy any lakes close by that might be worth fishing??

Five hour solo trip this morning neting just one laker out of 6 hits, bad way to start the trip.

Put the boat in at 5am set my 2 lines, wire dipsy out 120 with a spin doctor and green fly, other line was a downrigger set between 50-75 feet pro king spoon

One for 6 huh? a lot of times those salmon will hit short. The will turn on at a different time in the day tho and become more agressive, thus your hook up ratio will improve. Keep at er!

    What were the water temps?

47 when we were out Sunday, close to that sat.

Had a great time, bit windy sat morning but still nice, we didn’t try the masted planers but ran two riggers and a in line planer and a long line off the back, all had hits on them.

The in line set up was usually a spoon let out about a 100′ then a 2 oz snap weight. let out another 100 foot and tie the planer board on and let out maybe 50-75 foot, not sure how deep that ran but thinking maybe 30 foot??

We also ran the rigger out a longer ways, we tried at first maybe 75-125 foot off the ball, nothing, went to 200-225 foot and we stated to get fish, spooky fish maybe??

Fished anywhere from a 100 fow to 500+ and all hits were in that 35-90 foot range.

White didn’t produce this weekend, tried white flies, spoons, and hard baits, nothing.

They did hit on watermelon, and anything with a lot of purple in it, a purple deep diver off the long line got several hits but nothing stayed on, watermelon spoons were the hot item, ran two of them off the riggers and a another spoon of the in line that looked like watermelon but a bit more purple in it.

Riggers were the big producers though, hit a 7.4# laker, 5# steel head, and 4 smaller trout, maybe 5# or less.
Hit a 5 or 6# Coho off the in line planer though.

Like MNfish we lost maybe 5 or 6 fish.
Was nice to meet ya btw.

Sat was a bit windy and rainy, thank goodness for the boat top, but it did clear later and was nice, Sunday was windy in the morning, early afternoon was calm and fairly warm and then the wind changed.

Started to get rough enough that boat control and trolling was getting to be a bit of a problem, so we headed in.

So, for us the fish seemed to be a bit closer to shore 100-200 fow sat when it was cloudy and rainy, and Sunday when it was sunny out they seemed to move out a bit in that 400-500 fow range, all caught had lures less than a 100 foot deep and we tried up to a 150 deep with no luck.

Purple and watermelon spoons, and deep divers seem to work best, we tried a dipsy with several colored flies and spoons with no luck.

Had a good time even with the weather and stayed at the Camp 61 motel, pretty decent food there fwiw.

    Thanks all for the help.

    Al
