Headed up to Madeline island this last weekend, Friday was to rough to fish so we didn’t get out.
Saturday was a lot nicer and we managed to get out for quite a bit, ran from bayfield up pass Madeline almost to outer island, but problems with the main motor kept us from hitting the flats.
We were running in that 150 foot range and could occasionally see fish on the graph, but only hooked one 19″ laker and what looked like a 6# Steel, but it after doing a couple nice tail dances got hooked in another line and got off.
Wondering if we may have been to deep?
Laker was caught on a blue spoon, I think it was called cracked ice blue or something close to that, light blue and silver anyway and it was down about 90′ off a down rigger.
We left Saturday and came home.
Seems Larry talked to the manager about staying at their motel and asked about where the boat could go as they have a small parking lot, manager said no problem and said he could park on the grass.
Owner came by later Friday and made some comment about driving on the grass and Larry explained the phone call to the manager, she left and during the night sometime, one of them posted a note on the windshield not to park on the grass.
So, with open motels a rarity, we just came home Saturday.
Probably for the better as by that time I was in full blown cold mode and was only thinking about crawling into bed, at home.
So if your thinking of staying at the Bayview Motel in Ashland, and you have a boat…don’t.
So, not the greatest weekend, but had a good time and got to go someplace new and wander aimlessly looking for fish, gonna have to make it to the flats next time too.
Could have done without the cold though..
