Looks like a free weekend coming up, so I’m headed to Superior to try all the great lakes stuff I added to the boat over the winter.

Looks like we’ll head towards Two Harbors and try to troll the mud line, little uncertain as to if we’re going at this right.

Sounds like I should be running fairly deep, 80-120 fow maybe and running things like Xraps and such maybe 40-60 foot down ????

I have two downriggers, a few dipsy divers and some snap weights, hoping this will be enough and work.

Looking for where we should go, launch? and any fishing tips anybody might want to give out….help!!!!

    TIA

We have reservations in Two Harbors now, so unless the weather turns to dog doo we’ll be trying for fish sat and sunday.

Still looking for a bit of help..

hey al,sounds like you have all of the right equipment to get you down into the zone, most of my fishing is done in wisconsin waters but the fish are all running deep this time of year, all i can suggest is to start out shallow, maybe around 70 fow and keep moveing out deeper and try to fish the entire water column until you can patern the fish in there feeding habits.theyare very unpredictable as alwyas but if you pick one up there are sure to be more around, goodluck….

Everything looks good, we have a place to stay and possibly a member or two to meet up with, still looking like they’re deep and between the two down riggers, dipsy divers, snap weights and long lines we should have most depths covered.

Hopefully we’ll either have some pictures of fish to post or us sitting in the bar watching the lighting and rain.

We will be in Two Harbors at the Country Inn and I’m assuming launching out of the small craft harbor in TH also.

So if your up there and see several guys wandering around aimlessly in a black 185 Tourny Sport, give us a wave..

    Always looking for suggestions though???

I’ve done all of my lake trout fishing off of Madeline Island and surrounding area.

I made one trip up the north shore for lakers and it was out of two Harbors, nice harbor there and a bit closer than Bayfield, WI(driving from MPLS).

My father and I caught fish there on that trip, you are armed with all the right weapons. Hope the wind/weather cooperate with you! I love fishing white, wonderbread, or silver flashers with white flies, or anything else that looks like smelt.

Big spoons and sticks work too, but when the bugs are hatching and smelt are around I seem to always do best with flsher/fly combo. If fishing this pattern keep the leader nice and short, 12-18 inches, this gives the fly a very eratic movement, seems to best most times for the lake trout.

This time of year the lake trout I catch are chalk full of smelt and bugs.

Seems to me if you have a bug hatch, smelt and lakers will be there!

shoot me a P.M. if you have any other questions.

    Have fun and be safe!

Thanks 2619, having the right stuff was prob the most important, I might pick up a few more flys then as I only have one.

You use one of them flat things between the fly and diver, dodgers I think they call them??

Ya, weather is the big thing, not going out if it looks to windy or stormy.

The dodger or flasher is the most important part to the setup. There are a lot of good brands to use.

    Good luck to you!
