Well that was more rain than i think anyone expected! Just now as i type the last batch of storms are coming through. I am more than nervous to see what the lake REALLY looks like after some 5 plus inches of rain. Attached is a pic from MODIS showing the sight of what the st louis and Nemadgi river can produce. Unreal! To say that walleye fishing on the lake will be tough will be an understatement the rest of the summer.

My guess is that it will stay like this for a loooong time on the south shore, at least in shallower water, say 50 feet and in. The darkest stuff you can see there is un-trollable water, meaning you would have better luck fishing in the sewer for rats. This is going to be water with 1 to 2 inches of visibility and i would probably avoid it at most costs. Finding that edge can be your best friend tho!

Once the lake settles down, I will get out there and assess the damage. Shes not going to be pretty tho! TAKE CAUTION especially on the superior/south shore side as huge logs and other debris will be everywhere out there everywhere!

Grant, just looked at the camera down in Canal Park. Can’t say that I have ever seen the water so muddy.

    Grant:

Thanks for posting that pic, never would have thought it would be that bad!!! I have floated the Brule muddied up and basically told my brother on that trip we were wasting our time. That pic really shows what effect that has on the big lake!!!

A whole lotta words in that story wothout saying anything at all.

I have to imagine that the long term impact would be negligible. Short term, its going to ruin the fishing. I hope to be fishing out there by the end of August…

This flood will surely have long term impact. Not only to the fish but the river and lake. There will be mud, silt and docks/trees all over the place not to mention sheds and propane tanks. What the ACOE has dredged will be a mess. The marker buoys from up river havent been found and some are stuck in mud lake. I feel this will have a long term economical, fishing and biological effect.
I hate to say it but it could mess up fishing patterns for years to come.

Is the water near Two Harbors fairly clear?
We’re going up next weekend and hoping we can find the edge of the mud line without going to far from 2 harbors.
