Had another great morning on the water, went 13 for 13 in 1 hour. Drove around quite a bit before setting lines to find water I liked. By 9 the waves were getting big so I headed in towards shore. Completely different program from Tuesday, to the tune of a 30 degree difference in water temps!! The effects of one day of a west wind are incredible! Had 42 degree water a mile out from shore. Talk about a cold boat ride! All fish came deeper today and all on spoons. Very few fish higher up in the water column in the location I was at.

Can I ask what you are using for spoons?

I mainly use Jims Flashbacks. They have tons of colors and sizes, and the n2 size i believe is perfect for around here!

Have you heard about the walleye bite along the south shore? I am heading up Friday. I hope it isn’t too muddy.

I was at the cabin for a week and fished the breakwater for three days, then a friend and his boat came along and I was on the lake Saturday and Sunday. The wall gave up nothing and the boat did only slightly better. We found the water temps really cold for this time of year….44.7-45.4 degrees on the surface over the weekend. I did have some chasers off the wall but I think they were Herring.

We put two nice trout in the cooler on Sunday and we got a Steelhead on each day, one at 6 pounds and the other a real dandy at around ten. I haven’t seen a Steelie that large and wished the camera was along. The Steelies are something else on that open water.

Strange as it may sound, those Steelhead hit right at the surface on a trolled stick bait that I haven’t a clue as to its name. Its an ugly lure but the Steelies liked it. We had the lure running at 50 feet in the wash and its blade took it down about five feet.

The trout came on Flashbacks of Gold/orange with five black spots trolled at 100 feet in 117 of water….1.7 mph.

Talk about sunburn. I have never gotten cooked like I did on Saturday. I have been all over this country and beyond and never, ever, sun-burnt my lips before. Until Saturday.

Very slow to non existent. Honesty I think you would have a better chance of getting walleyes out in the deep water with the lake trout as quite a few people have been getting them on boards out in 90 fow or
so. It has been so muddy this year I feel a lot of fish are just staying out deeper where the water isn’t so muddy

Tom, awesome congrats on the nice steelhead! They have been very abundant as of late. I have been getting mine up higher in the water column too, down 30 feet at most. They are such a fun fish catch. Yeah those water temps can make it tough at times, especially when they drop 30 degrees. Let me know next time your coming up!

Our timing got mixed up this year Grant and I won’t get to the shore again until the first week of October. I plan to cast the wall since late Sept is usually hot out there for Coho and an occasional King. I’ll be sure and give you a shout a day or two in advance of our leaving for there.
