The up top planer board program lasted longer than usual this year, but its over now. The majority of the lake trout have dropped into the 60 to 130 foot range. Some good fish are being caught out of Mcquade, and also Knife river. Spoons on downriggers seem to be best, but other methods such as wire and a 1 pound ball, or dipsys are also producing. It seems as of late, a 6 hour outing will yield anywhere from 4 to 8 fish. The season started off great, then slowed and now it seems like it is picking up again.
Surprisingly there are still some salmon around. Cranks on boards will produce best for them. Water temps are in the mid 60’s right now on the north and south shore alike.
