WOW, can one say mud?? Im not sure how far out it goes, but there is a lot of it! The deepest i got was 55 feet on the South Shore yesterday and there was still mud as far as i could see. In shallower, say 15 feet, there was close to a 1 or 2 inch visibility. Out deeper, I’d guess aroung 5 inches or so. There was mud from the entry down past the amnicon. There is a good mud line right out of the superior entry.

The Jaws derby is going on right now, so well see if there were any big ones caught over the weekend. There were over 85 boats out of Loonsfoot yesterday so I’m sure a few boats got fish.

I did not get on the North Shore, but i am sure it is pretty clear as usual.

As far as crank baits go, In muddy water, i like a dark colored bait. Purples and blacks have worked good for me. Bright colored cranks such as chartreuse or orange work good also in the mud, but in my mind in the water that has 2 inches of visibility, i like dark colors.

Grant, do you employ any rattle baits when all you can find is mud???

Yeah most all of the cranks I have contain rattles. I won’t run a ofm or anything like that. The profile is too small and quiet. On the 4.5 inch lures I like to take the front hook off and slow down my speed a little.
