Who else also chases the early ice out crappie bite?

Seems every season I get out on the lake right after ice out and start to chase the crappie.

One can find some good fishing if they are willing to search a little.

    Can’t wait.

Some of the best crappie fishing I’ve had is right after ice out. In most cases there has still been some ice on other parts of the lake.

    Take Care!!

Hopefully in SC Mn we are not far off that time.

As soon as I get back from the Rainy sturgeon fishing and chasing a few eyes next week, it will be crappie time on the local ponds.

I was out around here in No Iowa last weekend to try just that. I did manage to catch some of the small ones, but have to admit to NOT finding any of the slabs that I had been catching through the last about 2 weeks prior. I am stumped???

I have one lake in my area that I usually follow the crappie from the deeper water all the way in to the spawning grounds.

This lake offers the crappie after ice out in a hole approx 45fow or other deeper holes and then as it warms up, the fish move in closer.

I typically do my best in the late morning finding the fish suspended half way up the water column.

One has to spend the time to see where they are hanging out and go from there. Enough time spent on the water and you should be rewarded.
