Parts of Albert Lea Lake has been opened to unlimited fishing by any means. Apparently there is a fish kill in progress due to lack of oxygen.

Grab your nets and waders and go for it meat gatherers. Get every ounce of meat you can. Stock your freezer, be cool and give some fillets to your neighbors. Savour the toxic flesh of those old walleyes and pike before they die and are wasted. It is your time to shine.

    Hey…Take some carp too!!!!

This lake along with some others in southern Minnesota seem to have problems with fish kills in the winter. The DNR along with some fishing clubs have put areators in some of these lakes to help prevent this from happening. The real shallow lakes seem to have this problem. It would be nice to see the DNR work more with this type of helping / management but with less dollars to work with each year it seems it gets harder for them to do things. Luckily there have been alot less fish kills than there use to be. Thanks, Bill

I canoed on Albert Lea Lake 25 years ago and we could touch the oars to the bottom in most of the lake. I lived a block from the lake and now own the house. The lake will always be a marginal fishery.

My recent (15 years) fishing experience is on three of the largest lakes and best walleye fisheries in the US having called each of them my home lake over that period…Lake Sakakawea, Lake Oahe and Devils Lake… so I might be a bit jaded.
