Lets start with the ice conditions. If you start out by Hoy’s Resort and you are looking at about 6 to 8 inches depending on where you are walking. You can actually see where the last bunch of ice to freeze as there is a ice line. These area’s have really good ice but it is only about four inches, a few spots are five inches depending on where you are walking. Ice is pretty good around the Hoy’s Lake Region.
Fishing….
Spent the morning fishing for walleyes with a tip-ups and jigging poles. Fatheads, Shiners, and Jigs. Saw a lot of fish on the Vexilar but only caught two. Fatheads caught the only two walleyes, one went appoximately 10.5 inches, the other was about 17 inches. Caught the fish in 17 to 24 feet of water. Went back to the same spot for the evening bite and caught eight more eyes but they were all around the 10 to 15 inch range. Fatheads and small shiners were the meal ticket to get a bite, but then again all that we caught were the little ones.
Found some perch biting right out front of Hoy’s Resort in 12 feet of water on glow jigs and crappies minnows and some wax worms.
For the most part the day was cold and the fish were in a daze but hey it beats work or college exams!!!
