There’s a small bass tournament going on at Albert Lea’s Fountain Lake October 19th, a team tourney with just a $25 entry. Anyone out there fishing in it?

Yup… believe it or not. And some seriously large walleyes. Growing up in Austin it was the closest place a guy could go to catch a couple. Each year the bait shop there in town would have a pic or two of walleyes over 8 Lbs. Plus some big pike from time to time too.

I’ve actually caught several nice largemouth over 5 pounds. But its usually very hit or miss. Early spring or late fall is definitely the best times to get em. I heard in this tournament last year it took over 20 pounds to win with five fish. It’s a really small somewhat informal tournament with only about 5 to 10 boats. Signup is at the Richway Drive landing before the 6:30am takeoff if anyone is interested.

Those are definitely some nice bass. I’ve caught some mid-summer on the down current side of the culverts between the main body(s) of the lake in what little downed timber there was nearby and around the docks. Nuttin’ fancy… chucking spinners. But that was MUCH earlier in the summer. I can honestly say I’ve never fished that lake this time of year.

I’m not sure, but I would assume weigh-in would be no later than 3pm.

Takeoff for this tournament has been moved to Edgewater Park landing because Richway Dr. is under construction.

An update on this tournament. It was won with 5 fish weighing 13.55 lbs. I finished 2nd with 13.14. Had a 4.25 kicker, but needed another! Big fish of the tournament was a giant 6.05 largemouth!!!!!!!! Not too shabby!
