Went out to Kelly-Dudley at about 10:30 this morning and fished til 3:30. This was a family outing and one of my sister’s first time out ice fishing. The action was slow going but we managed to get into some crappies and pike. The crappies came in 26 fow. They were suspending in 15 fow and taking a demon jigging spoon tipped with half a minnow. The pike were tricked into a sucker minnow in 20 fow and we ran the minnow 5-6 feet off the bottom. I tried both dead and live suckers today rigged on a fireline crystal leader.
My wife and daughter also accompanied today. We purchased a Clam Sleeper this year, and although I was a bit skeptical of the weight and size, this is the clear deal with those bringing the young ones with. The insulated floor was warm which makes a big difference allowing her to play around and be comfortable.
In the pic below my daughter took over the captains chair and my rod for a while . She makes her daddy proud Also pictured is my sister with her first fish ever through the ice and on a tip up
Great day to be out and there is action to be had with a little effort put into finding them!
