Lake Zumbro

According to reports from Hooked On Fishing Bait and Tackle in Rochester Lake Zumbro has been tough lately, but is showing some signs of life just
recently.
The crappies have moved deep and can be found with electronics. They are
typically suspended over deep water – like 17 ft. down in 30 ft. of water.
The bluegills have still been shallow at times, close to shore.
The bass are always structure oriented and can be caught if worked
correctly.
The northern have been the surprise so far this year – lots of them and some
nice size.
One recent report is that the panfish and northern were hitting very well in
Ryan’s Bay.
Of course, there are a lot of pleasure boaters on Zumbro now and they will
be a pain in the rear end at times.
Good luck, be sure to stop in and pick up your bait and tackle supplies at Hooked on Fishing, and let us know how you do fishing. Thanks, Bill
July 16, 2003 at 10:39 pm #270850Hey bill,
I was out on lake zumbro tuesday morning for about 5 hours. As you said, the fishing has been pretty slow lately so i wasn’t expecting a whole lot.
Fortunatly, the morning turned out to be somewhat of a pleasant suprise. we ended up catching 4 SMB and 1 LMB. The pleasant suprise was that they were all pretty nice fish between 14″ and 16 1/2″. Not huge, but certainly more than was expected . All were caught either casting or trolling shad raps along shore.
July 16, 2003 at 11:42 pm #270856The bass bite to my knowledge is pretty much a shoreline bite there. I have taken some largemouth by trolling along the shoreline with shad raps though. But the best bite for me has always been casting them to shore. You can pick up some nice white bass by trolling the shorelines with either crankbaits or roostertails. Thanks for the report Jake. Anyone else been out lately? Thanks, Bill

Considering everything that’s at stake answering your own post may be outside the legal parameters of the contest. We may have to form a comittee to make a ruling on this matter. LOLJuly 22, 2003 at 2:46 am #271178But discussing is, isn’t it? If not, I’ll have to have you post for me. Or is that not allowed either?!? Either way the show must go on. Thanks, Bill
July 22, 2003 at 5:56 pm #271245I’m hoping to get out there after work tomorrow….that is if the honey-do list is relatively empty.
July 27, 2003 at 10:27 pm #271708I never made it out. Hoping to get out Monday after work, unless, of course, I’m requested to perform a family task. (isn’t taking our son fishing a family task?)
July 29, 2003 at 5:48 pm #271895Well it wasn’t pretty. Caught a few little bass, a nice 16″ largemouth, and a 3# northern (I was hoping it was a muskie). The skiers were out in force and the waterski show was practicing so the water was chopped up but hey…the boy and I caught a few fish. It’s a busy lake out there!
