Long time before that happens up this way. Still sitting on 24″ to 32″ of ice.

North metro lakes are getting pretty soft. As of Sat. 3/17: Thin or no ice 6 feet out from shore. Still a good foot or so of ice out in the middle, but holes and cracks opening up. The sun is really degrading the ice — be careful.

And here, when I saw you had made a reply, thought maybe you found an open body of water on a lake before the rest of us did. Won’t be long now though. I use to take my family over to this area on vacations and on Opener as they are very nice smaller lakes that kids can really enjoy fishing and swimming. Back then Opener for me was family time on the water as I fished Lake Zumbro on Wednesday nights and pool 4 on weekends so on the Holidays everyone came for some camping, fishing and swimming fun. Even on Wed and weekends when they wanted too. Ever squeeze 2 adults and 4 kids into a small 14 ft boat with a 6 hp motor? We did many many times back then. Now you know why I love trolling with a 6hp or 8hp kicker motor. Did it for years when it was my big motor.
    Thanks, Bill

I hear there is some fishable open water at Fisherman’s Inn. I walked around Chester woods this afternoon and found nothing worthy for casting but did notice 2-3 foot patches of open water on some sections of shoreline. I’m off to Virgina for a wedding this week. I plan to sqeak in a day of deep wreck fishing off Hatteras with a good friend. Not the best time of year for action but I hope to hook a tuna and get the open water blues behind me.

    Welcome aboard.

Bill, i havn’t had a chance yet to start driving around and check the lakes out, usually like to do at this time of the year, but have been busy. With the forecasts being predicted as they are, it won’t be long before i’ll be on the lakes(just can’t happen soon enough)

Sounds like some really good times Bill You can’t replace those memories with anything. I wish I were able to provide people with a nice wet place to drop a boat in locally but the river is the way to go right now. But soon Bill, soon I’ll be playin bumper boats with you on the Zumbro while I hone in on your techniques Ok, I’ll be tempted but I’ll try to give you some room

    See ya soon
