A few of us drinkers with a fishing problem from Des Moines want to do some ice fishing the week before Christmas, but need some suggestions on a decent resort with ice house rental. We preferr Walleye, Crappie, and Perch. Will there be enough ice yet and any ideas? Thanks!

Christmas time ice fishing resort??

Gonna be a tough sled finding a resort that rents houses in southern MN. Mille Lacs would be a good choice if you’re willing to go that far and there is good ice. Usually most houses start to go out around Christmas to New Years on a regular year.
You could stay in a motel somewhere and drive back and forth. What kind of fish are you looking for? There are some good ice lakes in the area, but none have house rentals on them. Metro area would probably have a few. Places like Waconia or Minnetonka.November 9, 2006 at 4:29 pm #497862Mille Lacs could still be iffy that early. If you got the time LOW should be going good by then.

November 9, 2006 at 4:55 pm #497878yeah, it all depends on how far one is willing to drive. Mille Lacs is sometimes thick enough for sleepers. Upper Red Lake is another option. There you have a pretty restrictive slot for two walleye per person, but you could catch those huge crappie. There are resorts at either place which have day houses also.
