Falling through the ice!

You don’t want to fall through the ice!!!! It is very cold water. When or if you get out the air is cold and freezes your clothes, winds you, and makes walking one block feel like 2 miles. Why do I bring this up….for one it happened to me and I don’t want it to happen again.

Second reason….because in the last 2 days I have talked to one guy who fell through the ice and heard of another one this morn. I checked a local lake today that had open water on mon. afternoon. Where that open water was there was a 4 inch crack…..beyond the crack was 1 1/2 to 2 inches of ice.

Now the guys that fell through the ice went through walking the shorelines. One went through next to a good spring crappie spot. Why is it a good spot….because of the rocks and fallen timber that seem to hold warmth. This same warmth slows ice thickening and melts ice away making walking shorelines like this treacherous.

You think of these things from time to time after you hear and see where mishaps have occurred. That is why I have been stressing to be safe on early ice. Some people don’t bother to listen and you know what happens.

By the way one fell through on Elysian and one fell through on Cannon. The spot on cannon had open water near shore on last mon. afternoon. When I drove by mon. I thought it was peculiar that a spot about 10-12 ft in diameter had open water, yet I believed there was 2-3 inches of ice at the access down shore. I figured there was a spring there. That’s where the guy fell thru.

Another note…..I told you one guy fell thru Elysian….what I forgot to tell you was there were 2 old guys out there driving a truck on the ice…..not advisable on any lake in this area.
