Made it out on the water today after spending all day yesterday watching it rain down hammer handles & pitch forks. The afternoon began with a slight breeze and clouds. Started tossing a spinnerbait and and a shallow crankbait along some of the wind blown banks but to no avail. Rethought the situation and began heaving a Rattl Trap across wind blown points. Immediatley latched into a 18″ largemouth followed by a 25″ walleye. Things were starting to look up. Kept with the Rattl Trap and caught four more bass 12-14″.
The number and size of minnows schooling around in the calm water was incredible. There were six different pods of minnows, each about 17′ diameter, visible at one time. The Lowrance almost blacked out with arches in 8′-13′, but nothing willing to bite a crankbait. I finished off the evening with a nice, fat, 17″ largemouth that smoked a Texas rigged pumpkin colored Funky Monkey flipped adjacent to a dock post. If the number of baitfish present tonight was any indication, the fall bite will be very interesting….
