open water report?

Any body been out & about? Hows the ice melting going? Any info out there? Good fishin Doug

Heard a report that Clear Lake in Waseca was mostly open this a.m.The wind was quickly taking care of what was left.

When is ice usually completely off these lakes in the area? I’m on the other side of the state at school, but looking forward to getting the boat out, less than a month till i’m back in town!

I don’t know just when but with the recent rains and winds it should be off completely well before you get back.

Most of the lakes have all or about 90% of the ice off of them. Blue water sure looks nice.

Yep, this past weekend I fished some lakes around the Mankato area and both the gills and crappies were in the shallows in the early mornings at least. Was able to end up with a few bulls, and nice crappies. I would say with this cold a guy might want to look to the deeper water for sure during the day, but the mornings and evenings should still have some using the shallows.

A couple of buddies where down there the other day and only had to crappies to show for their efforts……

A buddy of mine stopped down there the other day and said they were catching fish, but most of them were dinks.

That sucks, because that normally means the bigguns already came and went……

Yah, that’s what he said, but he didn’t fish there himself. Just sat for a while and talked with a few of the folks that were there already.
