Went to lake Mazaska Sunday afternoon to check out the crappie bite. Started out fishing by the deep hole and caught 20-30 crappies!!! But….. they were only 4 inches long! We fished several different areas and found the same results during the daylight hours with a few big sunnies mixed in.
After dark was a totally different story. We caught a total of 3 crappies from 5:30 to 8:30. They were nicer sized fished but still was painfully slow.

Has anyone done wwell on this lake recently, what could I do differently?

Yup, that’s Mazaska. You can do better on one night than another depending which hole you set up on. I catch most of the larger crappies suspended high in the south holes, but not as high in the north hole. Last winter early morning before 8am was better than sitting out there all night, but I haven’t tried it out there in the morning this winter.
