Lets get this forum going. Ive been on French, Roberds and Mazaska. Fishing 25-45 ft in the evenings. Marking allot but coaxing them to bite has been a challenge. Searched the shallow areas on Mazaska for gills but came up empty. Anyone else have any info to share?

Unfortunately, my ice fishing this year has been all goofed up. The new family has slowed me down a little the first 6 months……..

How about Shields? In Bohemian bay? That area holds some really nice crappies!!! There is also good bass and pike to be had as well!!!

Havent hit Shields yet maybe give it a try. Where is Bohemian bay? Ice was ok as of last night, im sure the first few inches melted away, but those first few inches were white ice anyways. I measured 12″.

Bohemian Bay is the bay on the west end of the lake that runs next to the gravel road…

Had some luck on crappies. Fishing on the edge of deep basin on Mazaska, 15-20 ft. Fish prefered minnows over waxies…

Are you getting your crappies on Mazaska during the day or at night? I always did so much better on that lake after dark than during the day.

Anything happening on Roberds and French during the day? If so, how deep and on what have you had your best luck on with the crappies and gills?
    Thanks, Bill

I haven’t heard anything too substantial from French or Roberts. I did however fish East Jefferson with my brother yesterday and we did very well with perch. We caught around 70 fish in about 2 hours. All of the perch were about 6-8″. We didn’t keep any fish, but a guy could have kept a meal without feeling guilty. We fished about 18 fow and the fish hit crappie minnows and waxies equally. When we would mark fish, they would usually bite.

The main reason we went there is that the walleyes have been starting to come around. There haven’t been very many biting, but the ones that have were pretty large. The best bet would be to get away from the group on the sunken island and fish some new structure. People are driving out on the lake, but there seems to be a large part of the lake unfished this winter.

Roberts-night bite slow for crappies, but haven’t tried during the day. Usually day time is walleye, bluegill, and perch time there. Crappies are usually not active until 4pm or well after dark. Some crappies suspended over hole in Hunt’s as well, but inconsistent.

Mazaska had an ok bite during the late afternoon on Wednesday. Found some 10-11 inch crappies as well as some decent gills mixed in. Came out of 20 ft of water away from the crowds. Tried Roberds after dark and came up empty.
