Sunfish Spawn

We have still been getting a lot of enourmous sunfish (Madison Lake) in shallow as the sunfish are beginning to spawn. Some have been in the 10 inch range. And by the looks of where everyone has been fishing (in the shallows) the secret, if it ever was one, is out.
Has anyone had luck on some of the other lakes?

At Washington, the sunnies were up shallow last week I know. Haven’t been out there since as the lake turns into a zoo on weekends. Those sunnies are dandies in Madison aren’t they. I’m sure you could find a few on almost any lake in the area right now if you tried but I haven’t because I don’t put a ton of time in for pannies in the open water.

Dandies indeed. This is the only time of year I go after sunfish. The walleye of any size were elusive last weekend so it didn’t take a whole lot of arm twisting to decide to chase sunnies.

Oh, no doubt. Probably some of the best sunnies in the area are out there. Crappies are dandies too. I was out there a few weeks ago and chasing craps with some of those big bulls thrown in. Hard to find those biggies in this area anymore. So it’s nice to see a decent number out there.

The walleye is 18 inches so that gives one an idea of the size of the sunfish. These were two of 20.
