I heard the bay by the gravel road on Sheilds, where people used to park off the road now has a no-tresspassing sign. I haven’t been there to verify if this is true or not. If it is true, it will make travel a little slower to get to that hot area. If you do travel accross the ice to get to that bay, be carefull, as there is a spring that comes out on the northwest corner of the point that goes into that bay. The ice gets thin there.

As for the bite, crappies and sunnies are being caught at all the typical winter haunts. Look for weeds in the 8 to 12 fow range.

Have you been there yet this year? How is the pike bite over there? Are they catching any decent crappies in that bay??? It is not uncommon to drop the camera at 4am to see about 50 crappies all schooled up under your hole!!!

Sheilds was great early on averaging 10 to 11” crappies.
I put my house on mazaska and was catching 11 to 12” crappies and some 15 to 18” walleyes in 10′ of water. On cedar you can catch hundreds of 5 to 8” crappies. The northern bite is on full, i even got a 14” crappie on a tipup with a shinner. on french they are getting alot of nice crappies in 40′ of water from 1pm to 2pm but i think that bite might slow down soon.

Was out to Shields last Saturday and it was slow for me. Only caught a few small sunnies and perch. Then we went over to French for about a 1/2 hr. before we found the bar . Didn’t fish reel hard on french and only caught a few small crappies. There sure were a lot of houses out there though!!

Anyone else been out in the area? What about Roberds?
