Dredging…

Anyone know much about dredging? How its arranged, whether there’s a waiting list for it to occur, and if there are conclusive studies about the benefits when teamed with aeration? They dredged Hanska Lake on both ends I’m told and are expecting considerable success. I know that St. James Lake, before the aeration incident occurred, thrived after the dredging. Lura is one heck of a fishery. I’ve been thinking it could really benefit from dredging but my experience is based on fishing dredged lakes not science. I’m wondering if someone has a more detailed explanation of what the expectations are and what the outcomes have been.

    Thanks!

I would recommend that you contact those cities directly. Back in the 70’s Lake Crystal had a dredge. I was in high school then, but I believe the city had to buy that dredge. The dredge operators were city employees. The mud that was pumped out of the bottom of the lake was used to add land to a peninsula in the lake as well as filling an area which is now a city park with a ball field, volleyball courts, etc. Again, I’m not positive of the facts, but I believe that lake dredging requires a community commitment. It’s not a DNR function.
