Been recieveing many tips about the early shallow pre spawn bite for the crappie in the last week or so.

I am going to get out one of these days when the sky stops leaking.

Anyone been out and have any reports?

Those crappies usually dont spawn until mid-may at earliest, right now they go shallow to feed.

Yes, the water is not near warm enough to spawn but they are in the shallow water for sure.

yes, they are in and out to the first break, this sunday after dinner we watched people pulling 10-13″ crappies from an area lake off the docks.

Not true about all lakes. Lake onalaska here in lacrosse is warming up and even if you go into th way backwaters of the ol’ miss the water temp is 60 way back in shallow, sandy or timber bays. We have been catching males that are gettin beds ready for the females. Spawn around this area will happen in 2 weeks if weather doesnt turn better! The crappies in the picture prove my point correct. Just dont keep too many or keep just enough to eat. These fish are precious to th future fishery

Water temp is not that high here yet.

Good to hear your getting into some fish.

What is the best landing to access Lake onalaska from with the high water? Do you have to back your truck into the water?

    Thanks,
