Shermans Flat, Produced for my buddy & I. We fished on the south finger of the flat. We landed a 14″,15″& 17″ walleye on the top side in 24′ just about sunrise ( Gold spoons w/shiner heads.I had a bigger fish on shortly after peeling drag……….lost that one! Pick off a few smaller eyes through out morning……..then she died down about 8:30.

We moved out to the break on the flat where she dropped down to 30′.
Perch moved in along with tullies @ about 12:00 and you couldn’t keep them off your line, very active bite. Majority of the perch we caught had bugs coming out of their mouth……..so we knew we had a sweet spot! Caught most of our jumbo perch on a small yellow crappie jig w/ waxies.

I had a bobber set up hooked with a big shiner set up in my portable…..I ventured over to my buddys shack & we decided to drill a few holes along this break we where on, I drilled while my buddy fished behind me……..hour goes by and we have nothing but cold hands and faces.
We decide to go back to our portables to warm up a bit. So I get in mine crank the heat back up and notice my holes are somewhat frozen over, well I noticed my bobber wad down……..so I busted the ice away & felt the line like you would a tip up……..WOW, this one feels heavy I said to myself!! So I set the hook and the fight was on………peeling drag is the coolest sound…..I got it up to where I could see it was a big walleye, then she dove again. The ice around my hole wasn’t chiseled away very well, so I had to call my buddy over to help land it. Ended up being 25″

I would imagine this was fishing over the weekend and not this week, right? Walleye season is closed, obviously its not illegal to catch them if fishing perch, but people in brown (not ups either) may have a problem with you targeting walleye out of the season.

It does sound like you were on a motherload of perch spot if they were spitting up bugs. Congrats on finding a good school of perch/tulley’s.

Its also illegal to leave lines unattended I was warned about that when i was out of my port. I was 20ft away talking to a friend about where to put his wheelhouse.

    Great work and nice report!

Hopefully with this warm weather the perch bite will really start getting hot soon

Yeah I’m excited about a good bite turning on again! I honestly would like to find some crappies on Mille Lacs……. I’ve heard Isle bay is the place to be, but is their a time frame? Or does a guy just have to try it out for himself? Never fished for them on this lake.

You can get into some amazing crappies and even some big sunnies in Isle Bay, but it’s pretty hit or miss… Hunter Winfields is located right in the bay and I’d say your best bet to find out if the crappies are in is to just give them a call

If you do make it out let me know how it goes
