Just a quick update from this past week.
The walleyes really turned on this past week with the warmer weather. The fish were back up on top roaming and very aggressive. By the weekend…the weather was back to bitter cold and walleyes had moved back out into deeper water around the structure.
The deeper water around the flats and gravel continues to produce walleyes, perch and tullies. Downsizing your jig has been the best to turn fish in the deeper water. Flipping the Frabill over along a point or sharp break in deep water has been the best. You will catch perch of all sizes throughout the day. It seems like 4-6″ for awhile, then a 13″..then a 11″..then back to small perch. An hour later the cycle starts all over. By the end of the day, most people have a bucket full of perch…a few walleyes and alot of Tullie sightings.
The transition breaks along shore have also produced some really nice perch this past week. There are not near as many small perch or Tullies along these areas. These areas have been feast or famine. A school of big jumbos….then nothing….then a single big perch…then nothing. Not alot of fish catching in between cycles.
The most consistent bite for catching fish of all species and sizes remains off the deeper water around the gravel and mud flats.
I hope this helps….until next week, we hope to see you on the ice!
