I just wanted to let everyone know what we have seen on the lake this past week.

First, ice report….we have seen alot of roads and vehicle travel out on the lake. There are roads to numerous mud flats, gravel bars and rock piles. Have seen some off road vehicle travel…use extreme caution…there are also alot of active cracks with the warm up. As always, check in with the resort before heading out.

Fishing report….we have had some days where the fish showed up aggressive in the morning and stayed aggressive all day. Sliding up and down the structure all day long. We have also had some days where we had a short aggresive bit in the morning followed by alot of lookers. By mid morning you could tell staring at your Marcum and watching the fish power up to your bait..only to put the brakes on…that it was going to be a tougher day. These are days where we changed everything. We downsized our jigs from 1/8oz to 1/16oz…changed our baits to crappie heads vs fatheads…and also changed our hole patterns from top/top edge to bottom edge and deeper. I don’t know if the moon phase or high pressure systems had a hand in their mood, but these days you couldn’t get the fish to chase your baits and you sure couldn’t get them to break the glass barrier. So downsized we went and we went out deep to find active fish. These tough bit days the fish were still going, but they would not be as eager to chase. Slowing down your jigging and being aware that the fish were reluctant to come off the bottom more than 3 feet was key in turning fish.

We have also seen some jumbo perch and tullies showing up this past week. The deep water around the flats, gravel and rock piles are kicking out these fish as well.

Each day is different…I hope this helps out!

Until next week…we hope to see you on the ice.

Nice post, I was out there yesterday and seen you guys on the first spot around 0800. After you guys left we also went north to a few other reefs and tried everything in the book but smaller crappie heads. Lots of sniffers but no takers for this guy. It was a long humbling day for me. Very nice job. I guuess there is a reason I am not in the guide business. What a diffence a week makes.
