I had a chance to get up to the “Pond” on Sunday to meet up with a couple of friends. We met for a late breakfast at a local establishment, then headed out to one of the Mud Flats. We started fishing around 10:30 a.m. locating small transition areas on the flat. Next, we positioned our portable houses so to cover deep basin areas as well as top structure spots. I was set up on a saddle area where it was 27 fow. I had already augered out 25 addtional spots so to be ready for the evening bite. We had holes in 24 fow, all the way to 31 fow. The walleyes were chasing the baits, but none would really crush em. I found out that either a Northland Buckshot or B-Fishing Tackle lures in perch pattern worked best. The saddle spot was the most consistent location. Our group ended up with only 6 slots, but we caught some Giant Eyes! The biggest being a 29.25 incher, followed up with a 27.5, 27, 26 and 23.5. It was a great day of fishing.
