When October rolls around and the air and water temps drop, I get just as exicted about the fall bite on mille lacs as most of you guys do!!! So I got to thinking today about the full moon coming up in late December. Does the full moon shallow bite exist through the ice into the late hours of the night, or have the walleyes moved into and stay in deeper water during the full moon “first ice?”

As long as there is food up on the rock/weeds the walleyes will follow. I know first ice and low light conditions put out some huge fish early, not many but the ones caught are usually very good. As the morning gets longer you slide out into deeper water these fish will still be roaming. First ice and shallow water require you to be almost deer hunting quiet. Drill holes well into adavance of fishing if possible, stay put to keep noise limited. I know some people have gone as far as using a candle vs a lantern or other lights. These fish will move up and down all night as long as they don’t get pushed off by noise.
