Ninty nine point nine percent of my fishing is on pool 4. With current conditions I’d like to get my line stretched so am going to mille lacs for a couple of days later this week. Having not fished M L’s since my early twentys which was a very long time ago and only in the summer during a time when it was referred to as the dead sea I’d like some advice on which section of the lake to target and perhaps methods. It’s the fw and I so not to much night fishing well be done espesially with the moon phase. Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ps If night fishing is defintly the thing to do I am not absolutly ruling it out.

For walleyes I would suggest to locate fish with your electronics at the bottom of steep breaks in deeper water and fish them with lindy rigs with big minnows (red tails, suckers or chubs) during the day. Troll the top of the break in 3′-9′ with stickbaits (Husky Jerks and Rogues) at night. Have fun and good luck.

Do you have LeadCore setup? If so you can pretty much fish the same areas Mr. Ellis just described, however a little deeper. If fishing during the day I would focus on the north/northeast side of the lake are running lead in anywhere from 18-25fow, search a little bit for these fish on the electronics. If you go out of the Red Door you shouldn’t have to travel far…
If you do venture out at night and right now being in the new moon phase I would only fish past sunset a few hours max as the moon set this weekend is around 650pm for friday and 7:30pm for sat and 800pm on Sunday night. It appears these fish this year want some moon light in order to bite. Years past we have caught fish on new moon phase but something is different this year.

    Good Luck.

Yeap me too, leaving Thursday morning. Looks like the days will be sunny with light south winds 5-7mph. So what does that tell you Mille Lacs guys about areas to fish? North side? Just got my Lakemaster chip today, what depths should we be looking at for a day time bite?
    Thanks

T Ellis is right on for the day bite. That deep leadcore bite is tailing off. Those fish are in those same areas, just not triggering the cranks during the day. (At least not for this guy…)

Best case scenario. Get a good wind blowing into the same shoreline for 2 or more days. Find shallow rock/gravel structure (6-8 ft) and they will go on cranks or livebait. (shiners/leeches/redtails) during the day.

This last weekend we had the wind out of the north Sat and then a 180 degree switch over night and blowing straight out of the south Sunday. The bite was spotty and never really got set up imo.
