It must have been slow this weekend for everyone

I had a very slow day out open water trolling on Saturday, only picked up 4 fish. But I must have not been the only one struggling as this board is dead….Hopefully some stable weather will get things going again.

We tried pulling Lead Core as well with no luck in the open. Headed toward structure and was marking fish on A flat and nothing. Switched over to spinners and trolled at 1MPH and bingo. It was 2 PM on top of the flat and fish were to be had. Kids had a blast, when they hit they hit hard. No finesse needed. Put the rods in the rod holders played cards, DS and read books until we heard the drag go. PS note crawlers out produced leeches. Also bigger spinners with bigger beads picked up all walleyes versus smaller getting perch as well.

I KNEW IT! I had a feeling that the mid day spinner bite would go! just the fact of 2 hours of sleep and leaving the house at 1:55am got the best of us. Good to hear the kids had a blast!

We did not even buy bait we were sticking with cranks, I could have tried GULP but I prefer real crawlers to start with. Thanks for the update.

It was by no means fast and furious, but we had some luck this weekend trolling cranks in the basin. Averaged about 3-4 fish per hour. For what it’s worth, our best fishing was over a mile from the nearest flat or structure of any kind and…if your crankbait of choice wasn’t purple/chrome, it didn’t catch fish. Boards also produced 4:1 or so as compared to long-lining, all other things equal. In between bites, we had comic relief throughout the day as people would pull up to us, stare at their GPS/fishfinders, and take off with puzzled looks on their faces…like they were thinking “what are these idiots doing out here in the middle of nowhere?”.
