Does anyone know of a place on the lake that I can purchase some new white oak runners? Need a pair of 20 footers for a 16 foot shack!

    Thanks!

I’m just curious as to why white oak and not steel? Besides the obvious maybe which would be price. Just speaking from someone who is in the market to buy a house, I am really only interested in maintainence free.

Haedt Bros. Sawmill. About a mile north of Prince Bait right on 169 (west side of hwy.) 612-221-0116 I believe they are getting about $1.00 per board foot for white oak lumber these days. If so a 6″ x 6″ x 20′ runner would cost $60. Perhaps the rates are lower on a runner size timber.

I had my house at a resort where the owner would not allow steel runners. He said it was not possible to control such a house going down hill or in a strong wind.

Thanks! White oak is very durable and will last for many years and it’s much cheaper than steel…I priced out the material to possibly switch to steel runners, Each runner would have been well over $200 for a 2×6 1/4 inch wall tube. My last set of runners lasted 12 years and would still be fine if I hadn’t allowed the shack to freeze down!

If you can get them for $60 a piece, this in my opinion, would be a steal. I last bought a set of 20′, 5×7 about 17 years ago and paid $200…cash Maybe I got robbed….
