I had the chance to hit the pond with Jason Halfen & his father-n-law Tim, the other day we were pulling spinners baited with Trigger X on bottom bouncers over the gravel on the southeast side of the lake. We work 28-30 fow with speeds of 1.2 to 1.5. For the day we boated 30 eyes for the day biggest was a nice 26″ pig, lots over over the slot & 4 for the box to keep Mrs. Steffes happy.

I plan to try the Trigger X next time out. The perch were driving me crazy this past Tuesday.

    Good video.

I have not used trigger X out there but I have had just as good luck with powerbait crawlers versus the real thing and avoid the perch tearing it apart. Trigger X looks real good and I am going to have to give that a shot as well. More and more I am using less and less live bait!

x2 on the power bait. I also use to use Culprit worms before the big power bait explosion.

just found this site and this is my first post so I hope I get it right. this is one of my favorite ways to fish on mille lacs been doing it for a long time and you don’t need any sceneted plastics just worms with a long tail in the right colors. watermelon, motoroil, black and other natural colors are all good and keep the perch away and the walleyes eat them right up. if you get short hit really change around colors to find what they want as it changes every day. once you find the right color it will be game on. the soiuth east corner of 9 mile off the break a bit has been the best for me of late with the north west corner of eight giving up a lot of fish too. there’s fewer perch on the mud but the pike and muskies will keep you on your toes as I lose a rig or two a dfay to the toothie guys. this bite will slowly taper off by mid july so get out there while it still goes good. if you see a patriot with a merc pulling blades give me a wave.

I know a lot of you put your Ring Worms away when the waters warm. But for years I have been using Ringies on 3-way and board rigs on Mille Lacs! I run a 1 or 2 ounce 6″ dropper and a 3 foot flouro snell hooked to Superline. I move along the rock drops and gravel at about 1.5 to 2 MPH. On boards, I run the snells longer, about 6 feet. The key is to take time making your snells in advance. You want to make sure that the nose hook to the tail dimensions are correct. You want the tail hook to go through the plastic JUST ahead of the twister. And you don’t hook it THROUGH the tail, you take the hook and just pierce the plastic and come back out, leaving enough of the #6 Gammy to do it’s job! This works VERY well! I only need a 2 hook snell for this as hook ups are immediate! Puple/white tail and Firecracker/Chartruese tail are my favorites for the Pond and Winnie. Give it a try next time out!!! Oh, and I will vary this rig to go with or without spinners.

Thanks for a great report/video Mark and Jason
Three ways seem to be the method of choice when pulling spinners. What is your take on snap weights Vs. 3ways?

thanks for the welcome guys. I’m on the lake at least two times a week all summer long. give me a wave out there if you spot my patriot. theres not many of them around any more so if you see one out on the flats theres a good chance it will be me.

Aaron, I’ve never pulled spinners on a snap weight before so I’m not alot of help there. But I pulled them on a 3-way or a bottom bouncer with great success. My one thought is keep your rods in the rod holder for your best results.

Wonderful exposition on plastics. Thank you.

I’m just starting to experiment with pulling moxies and rubber worms behind small blades on a DR. Only have one hour on them now and NOTHING outperformed FireTiger on anything (blades, sticks, raps) Couldn’t even get a rip on anything else. must match a feeding pattern…

OK so TriggerX vs Gulp?? What are the comments here??
