I know the bite has been great this year and I hope it continues through the weekend. The time I spend on mille lacs is usually never on the northeast side, but this weekend I’ll be up at my girlfriends cabin (malmo area) and would like to get her family into a few walleyes for the fry pan. There’s a good chance we’ll be bobber fishing because of some of the inexperience, so if any of you guys could point me in the right direction on that side of the lake…..depth, hook colors….way points , j/k, any help would be appreciated.

Just follow a Yar Craft that has Lybacks Marine.com on the side of it. I’m pretty sure he’ll be launching out of Fisher’s Resort. I’ll be fishing the sand/mud transition or the mud flats. If it’s blowing, you might see me on or near Agate Bay reef or possibly 2 mile.

OR follow JJ I think he has a red sparkle boat…

Good luck and be safe as the lakes will be packed!

Directly out from Malmo there are two good deeper rock piles out in front of Fisher’s that depending on conditions could produce well in the morning/evening.

If you want to bobber during the day I’d look at fishing the edge of the mud flats. Try fishing both the top and bottom edge… set a time limit (say 15 minutes) and if you don’t pick up a fish move to another spot. Keep moving around to different spots/flats and you should be able to narrow down where the fish are. If the lake is calm try power corking where you troll slowly around the flat and wait to mark fish before throwing out your bobber.

I will be up there as well and staying out of the state park on the south side. Any idea on how quickly the ramps will fill up with trailers? Just trying to figure out if I need to be on the water by 6 every day or earlier.

They have a nice launch there at Father Hennepin State Park. Limited parking. Most just put in, tie off to the docks there and park at their campsite. No worries.

….and a big dog for a hood ornament!

I’m not headed up till Monday. Fishing all week.

I have been fishing on that NE corner since opener. Plenty of fish to chase. Fishers or Red Door and head out to the mud from there. One tip on corking the mud that may help ya get an extra few bites. I’m getting a lot more bites on jigs rather than a plain (or red) hooks. Blue or orange are top 2 colors. Run them close to bottom. Like 5-8 inches. So when you set your depth, fish the rig close to the boat. Don’t let it drift out. Move every 20 minutes, even if the move is only 50 – 100 feet. Good luck.
