When your pulling cranks on lead how many colors are you letting out? are you running long leaders? On the river my reel is spooled entirely with lead, and about a 6-8 foot leader. Mille Lacs is probably alot clearer than the Mis Sip’.

You let out as many as it takes to get to the depth you want to be, may it be 10 feet or 25 feet. Your leader sounds about right
I am rigged with 30′ of floro. Figure about 4′ of sink rate per color plus a dive for your lure generally 3-4′.
I run a 50 foot mono leader. There after I figure about 5 feet per color.

That’s about right for me as well. However, it will vary with your spead. I only use about a 15′ leader. I’ve been getting the majority of my fish with #4 & #5 Hornets especially in the new Holographic colors (SBS – Silver Blue Shad) The #4’s will catch everything in size where the #5’s tend to catch the larger fish.
