What a day, started the day off rigging, than took a couple bolts of lightning I swear were between us and shore, ran back to the access, loaded the boat, went had some breakfast, rain looked to be breaking up. Ran back to access, just as we launched the second down pour came. So away we went.
Picking 3-4 fish a drift, just drifting a deep break with no snagg sinkers, long leashes, pretty typical mille lacs gear.
Probably one of the coolest things I have seen in a while happened. Had a nice 23-24 inch fish fighting really goofy, back and forth and hard charging just couldnt quite figure it out. She come topside and I saw this “log” materialize out of the depths….Took me a couple of seconds like what the !@#@ is that. And than that log grew teeth and took a real nice swipe at the throwback fish. Pretty cool seeing a big ol tank of a ski come boatside and get an awesome look at her.
After the rain stopped the wind came, dealt with that, after that the sun came out the wind died off and it was time to start playing with some shadlings. Guy I was with is just getting into the crankbait game and wanted to play with them. I didnt think conditions were totally ideal, Id rather have started with blades to see the tempo but maybe the reaction strike was what set them off. Chart. Perch/ Perch Shadlings in #7 were what they wanted. So its what we gave them.
After that we slid over to 31 feet of water on a break to soak some splashbrites. Been there, dont that, wrecked that. Popped a few and decided to call her a night!
