Here is a email I received from a buddy who knew the victims here. I took out the names to keep their identity hidden. This happened in day light it appears.

Lets be safe and be aware of others out there.

I’ve just learned of a boating accident on Mille Lacs over the weekend. The accident happened in Cove bay sometime late afternoon on Saturday. A boat occupied by four individuals was anchored in Cove Bay when they saw a boat coming through the buoys. Once the tiller boat cleared the buoys it hammered the throttle and headed for the anchored boat. With the tiller boat’s bow still high out of the water it hit the anchored boat. Two passengers in the boat were able to jump out before being hit. The other two (father and son) were not so lucky. The father, managed to push his son out of the way before he was struck and thrown from the boat. The son sustained a blow to the head and the father has a few broken vertebras and his pelvis was split on impact. The fifteen year old son watched as his father nearly drown, as he was unable to use the lower half of his body to stay afloat.

Somehow the three men were able to get back into a boat and were transported to shore and then to the hospital. Thte father was airlifted to a hospital down here and will undergo surgery today.

The same thing happened to me down on pool 4, now everytime i see a boat planing towards me i tend to freak out. Just cause you can see the boat doesn’t mean he/she can clearly see you.

Sorry to hear that, Rob. I had “heard” about the boat crash but couldn’t verify it.

That water was way too cold for a swim last weekend!!!

Perch, I agree I keep a spot light handy also, but this appeared to happen during day light hours.
