So after reading the other threads on here I see nothing got answered. I am up in the air about going to the pond for the opener on Saturday and just wondering if I would need flares ar anything else out of the ordinary to be on the water lagally.

I wouldn’t cancel my trip…. quickly checking the boating laws, nothing has changed…. have your life jackets, throwable, horn and fire extinguisher and you should be fine. I doubt anything will be addressed at this time… they are not even concerned with the launches yet at this point…I doubt anybody knows any of the answers your seeking.. including the DNR !!!

Thanks Big G We havent decided our plans yet and wasnt going if flares are needed. I used to fish there 2x a month but the last few years didnt want to deal with the drive and the B.S. of the slots and such. Good luck to all going out up there and elsewhere this weekend!!

Red, I didn’t see your other posts. I’m assuming you’re talking about ML being a Federal Waterway that a recreational boater would need flares?

If so, this designation doesn’t have any effect on a recreational boater…it’s only for vessels for hire.

    Standard boating laws apply.

Lets not try to stir the pot here too much guys. Maybe this little non-issue will just take care of its self.
Have you ever seen the USCG in Mille Lacs, I dont think they want to be either. If your pickin’ up what Im layin’ down.

X2. And you can add, Rainy River, Cass Lake, ect. I have never even seen them on the navigable part of the Mississippi though I’m sure they get there from time to time. Sure not a big presence that’s for sure.
